PEC Awards $100,000 in Scholarships to Area Students

Cooperative Selects 25 Recipients for $3,000 to 5,000 Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(KYLE, Texas) May 5, 2025 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative has a long history of supporting its members and communities through educational programs that benefit students across its service area. This spring, as an example of PEC’s efforts to invest in the future of its communities, the Cooperative proudly awarded $100,000 in scholarships to 25 recipients. Students were selected from nearly 500 applicants and scholarship awards ranged from $3,000 to $5,000.

“We are delighted to support these students in their educational journeys,” said Mikayla Herron, PEC community outreach specialist. “PEC serves members within 23 different school districts and across approximately 34 public high schools. The competition was steep and we were thrilled to receive so much interest.”

This round of scholarships marks $1.6 million that PEC has awarded to nearly 900 students since beginning the program in 1999. PEC scholarship recipients can put funds toward tuition at the college, university, technical or trade school of their choice. Besides scholarships, PEC provides other free programs and support for youth education, including school visits, PEC’s Youth Tour, various online resources, and the co-op’s new Learn, Empower, and Develop (LED) program to help students access career information and learn how to build resumes.

This year’s scholarship recipients and their families were recognized at a reception, May 2, at EVO Entertainment in Kyle.
