Scam: Third-Party Service Companies

Scam alertNews of a fresh scam tactic has begun to circulate around the PEC service area. Prospective and current PEC members searching for the cooperative online are unknowingly providing personal and financial information to fraudulent third-party home service companies that offer to establish service with PEC on their behalf.

Bad actors keep the money given to them and then pay connection fees with bad checks to establish an account using the personal information provided by the unsuspecting target. Days later, the bad check is returned, service is disconnected, and returned check fees are assessed to the account holder.

PEC does not partner with any third-party home service companies. To establish electric service with us, please visit our website at mypec.com or contact us directly at 888-554-4732, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In the cooperative spirit of community, we ask that you help us spread the word about this scam by communicating with your family, friends, and neighbors. Please visit Identification and Scams for more information on scam protection.

Only Work With PEC Directly to Establish Service
