PEC Announces Power Player Award Winners

New Award Honors Student Athletes

(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) October 29, 2025 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) surprised four student athletes by naming them winners of its new Power Player Award. The award recognizes students who exemplify sportsmanship and the cooperative difference by exhibiting leadership, dedication to their craft, and concern for community.  The winners are among dozens of student athletes that were nominated from across Central Texas.

“From balancing sports practices, homework, and other activities, these students are busy and driven,” said PEC Community Outreach Specialist Mikayla Herron. “They stand out on and off the field, bringing out the best in their peers and community, which is why we wanted to recognize their leadership.”

PEC’s 2025 Power Player Award winners include:

  • Hannah Griffin, sophomore, varsity volleyball player at Liberty Hill High School
  • Landry Meyer, senior, varsity volleyball player at Blanco High School
  • Crawford Mattox, sophomore, varsity football player at Marble Falls High School
  • Sabian Sifuentes, senior, varsity cross country runner at Moe & Gene Johnson High School in Buda

PEC selected these students for their leadership qualities and character traits that make them not only standout athletes, but also impressive young adults. The winners are well-rounded and involved in several activities within their respective schools and communities. Power Players received a trophy, yard sign, and gift card to an athletic sporting goods store to use toward their craft.

Cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities. As the nation’s largest member owned electric distribution cooperative, PEC is member focused and places a high priority on community giving through grants, scholarships, youth programs, appreciation events, and more.
PEC’s Power Player Award is one of several the cooperative gives out each year through its community engagement programs. Other awards include PEC’s Teacher Spotlight and the Community Transformer Awards. Collectively, these awards highlight the importance of PEC’s values and celebrate members who give back and strengthen their communities.
