Don’t Let Cold Weather Cost You

It is often necessary to run the heater on brisk winter days, but you don’t have to set it too high. Heating your home can cost up to three times as much as cooling it, so the thermostat offers the potential for significant savings. There are other small things you can do to save a bit of energy as well. See our tips to keep your bill manageable this winter.

Set your thermostat at 68 degrees or lower

You can keep your house comfortable by setting your thermostat to 68 degrees in the winter. If you’re planning a trip, set it 7-10 degrees cooler while you’re away. These changes could save you up to 10% per year on your bill.

Opt for space heaters

Electric space heaters can be a great alternative for staying warm in areas of your home that tend to be cooler. But remember to turn them off when you leave the room.

Open the drapes

On clear days, let the sunshine heat your home. This can help you stay warm with less stress on your heating system.

Keep up with maintenance on your heating system

Change your air filters regularly to ensure your unit runs as efficiently as possible. Have a certified technician complete yearly maintenance on your system — a faulty heat pump can cause excessive energy use, and you may not be aware of it until you get your bill.
