Rain, wind, and lightning don't have to ruin your day.
While some outages are unavoidable, there are steps you can take to minimize the impact of severe weather.
Prepare for an emergency
If you don’t already have an emergency kit, now is the time to make one. Gather essential items such as flashlights, extra batteries, bottled water, nonperishable food, blankets, matches or lighters, first-aid supplies, medications, pet supplies, and battery packs for your devices.
Develop a plan with your family in case of prolonged outages. Know where and when to seek shelter if needed. You should also keep important numbers handy, including your PEC account number and PEC’s emergency line, 888-883-3379.
Get your trees trimmed
Many storm outages are caused by trees falling into power lines or coming in contact with electric equipment. Inspect the trees on your property; if any pose a risk, get them trimmed as soon as possible.
Never trim trees within 10 feet of electric equipment yourself! Instead, request free tree trimming from PEC through your online account or by calling us at 888-554-4732.
Always report your outage
When the lights go out, be sure to report it:
- Online at map.myPEC.com.
- By texting OUTAGE to 25022 from the number associated with your account.
- Through your account at myPEC.com/account or the SmartHub app.
- By calling 888-883-3379.
Keep in touch
When you add your mobile number to your account, PEC can send you important text alerts. We only send messages when it’s important, like during an emergency or when an outage is planned at your location. You may opt out at any time. Message and data rates may apply.
During an emergency, we will share any available updates on our social channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and X. Learn more at myPEC.com/text.
