Register now through May 29 for PEC’s Camp Save-a-Watt

Free, Online Summer Camp for Students in Grades K-5

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) April 1, 2026 — Registration is now open for Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s (PEC) free, online summer camp for elementary school students. The camp provides hands-on learning and educational activities to teach students important lessons in energy conservation, nature exploration, and electrical safety. Parents and educators can register their campers now through May 29, and camp begins June 1.

“Whether they’re watching an animated video, singing a song, or building a solar car, kids tend to learn best through interactive experiences,” said PEC Community Outreach Specialist Kevyn Packer. “We look forward to providing our youngest PEC members with helpful lessons on how to save energy and make a difference in their communities.”

During the eight-week virtual camp, students will receive weekly educational videos, mini-lessons, crafts, and activities to complete at their own pace. PEC’s mascot Wattson Raccoon is incorporated into the activities to help make learning fun.

Camp Save-a-Watt also offers various in-person events to engage with students and complement the online learning. This year’s in-person events include opportunities to meet a lineworker, learn about careers in linework, try on safety gear, and watch PEC crews in action on a bucket truck. PEC will also hold egg drops at select locations, where campers can bring in contraptions they’ve built to protect an egg and test the effectiveness of their design as it drops from a bucket truck. In addition, Camp Save-a-Watt’s Solar Car Derby is a favorite in-person event where campers can build and race solar cars.

PEC will host the following in-person events.

Meet a Lineworker:

May 29, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Liberty Hill Public Library

June 10 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Mammen Family Public Library in Bulverde

July 21, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Buda Public Library*

June 24 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library in Bertram*

Events in Buda and Bertram will also include an egg drop challenge.

Solar Car Derby:

PEC’s Solar Car Derby will be held at the Cedar Park Recreation Center on Tuesday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Parents can register online at myPEC.com/camp through May 29. Campers registered by May 8 will receive a free Camp Save-a-Watt T-shirt!
