Register Kids for PEC’s Camp Save-a-Watt™

Free, virtual summer camp for students in grades K-3

Pedernales Electric Cooperative is committed to caring for the communities it serves and one example is by providing educational opportunities for students and families. For the third year, PEC is proud to offer Camp Save-a-Watt™, a free, online summer camp that teaches the cooperative’s youngest members lessons in energy conservation, nature exploration, and electrical safety. Registration is now open through June 2 and camp begins June 5 for students entering kindergarten through third grade.

Through the camp, students can learn online and at their own pace by participating in weekly activities alongside camp mascot Wattson Raccoon and friends. This year, PEC has also partnered with local libraries to provide in-person events across the cooperative’s service area. Campers who attend will have the chance to meet a PEC lineworker, try on safety gear, and explore the ways electricity gets to their home. PEC will also be holding its second annual Solar Derby Day on June 21 at the cooperative’s headquarters in Johnson City where kids will get the chance to make their own solar car, race it, and meet Wattson Raccoon.
“As PEC reflects on 85 years of powering the Texas Hill Country, our efforts are focused forward, investing in community programs that will continue to enrich the lives of young people, our future members,” said PEC Senior Community Outreach Specialist Celeste Mikeska. “We’ve added new and exciting lessons for campers and additional in-person events that students across our service area can attend, so it’s the perfect time to participate.”
With the help of parents and teachers, Camp Save-a-Watt™ can also help show students how to reduce their energy use and make a difference. These small but impactful habits support financial savings for families and schools. Upon registering, students will be mailed a free Camp Save-a-Watt T-shirt. Parents and teachers can find additional information and register online at camp.pec.coop.
