PEC Supports National Read Across America Day

Members and Employees Share Their Love for Literature Online and in the Classroom

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) February 25, 2026 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is supporting National Read Across America Day, March 2, to help young students foster a lifelong love for reading. As part of PEC’s commitment to provide educational resources and opportunities to Central Texas youth, the cooperative engaged members, employees, and students to read stories to students both online and in the classroom.

This week, PEC added six new read-aloud videos to its Literary Expedition Library, a free resource for elementary school students, parents, and teachers. Singer-songwriter Cory Morrow contributed to PEC’s video book collection this year by reading aloud “The Book with No Pictures” by B.J. Novak.

“As a dad of five, reading to my kids has always been one of my favorite parts of parenting,” Morrow said. “Books spark imagination, encourage curiosity, and create moments of connection and laughter that stick with you. I’m grateful PEC supports programs like this that strengthen our community and encourage a love of reading.”

Calvin Richard, Transformational Coach and Men’s Mentor, also shared his excitement for contributing to PEC’s online library. “I love this initiative because it gives leaders in our community an opportunity to give back,” Richard said. “In today’s day and age, with so many digital distractions, there’s something about putting a physical book in your hand and feeling the story come alive right before your eyes.”

PEC launched its Literary Expedition Library in 2024 and has added new content annually to share with members, area schools, libraries, and after-school programs.

This year’s new book additions and community readers include:

Cory Morrow | Singer – Songwriter

Calvin “Go Hard” Richard | Transformation Coach and Men’s Mentor

Darren Donhauser | PEC Journeyworker

Luke Stannard and Wattson the Raccoon | Student at Colt Elementary

Blanco MS Students | University Interscholastic League (UIL) Oral Reading Team

Read by: Eighth graders Emily Jamison and Eden Byrom

Read by: Seventh grader Zoran Sykes

This week, PEC employees will be visiting schools across the cooperative’s service area to read to students. Teachers can request an in-person reader year-round by filling out an online form. Learn more about PEC’s youth programs at myPEC.com/youth.
