More than 650 students, teachers, and PEC employees plant garden to beautify school grounds
(MARBLE FALLS, Texas) Oct. 16, 2026 — Today, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) and Marble Falls ISD’s Colt Elementary School partnered to host a wildflower seed stomp at the school with students, teachers, and co-op employees. Participants spent the morning planting wildflower seeds in an area that will grow into a pollinator garden this spring to support student learning. In Texas fashion, students in boots stomped on the soil to turn it, then dropped packets of seeds in the ground and planted them.
“We’re so grateful for this opportunity to engage with our Marble Falls community and to share the importance of preserving the Texas Hill Country with young students today,” said Kevyn Packer, PEC community outreach specialist. “We know the best way to learn is often first-hand, and we hope that students and teachers will continue to benefit from this garden well into the future.”
Students also attended a school-wide assembly where PEC employees explained the importance of native plants and their role in supporting pollinators. The school’s new wildflower garden will provide an improved space for beauty and learning that will help promote monarch butterfly migration in the spring and fall.
Colt Elementary School Principal Melissa Fletcher said the event is an opportunity for students to connect with nature, learn the importance of preserving the Texas Hill Country, and take pride in making a lasting impact on their school community.
“We believe some of the most meaningful learning experiences happen beyond the classroom walls and we are incredibly grateful for our partnership with PEC and their investment in our students and campus,” Fletcher said. “This experience truly represents The Power of Us, bringing our school and community together to create something meaningful that we can all continue to enjoy for years to come.”
From school presentations about electrical circuits to scholarships for graduating high school students, PEC actively supports its youngest members with an abundance of programs for students throughout Central Texas.
