Employee Volunteers Participate in Community Improvement Projects in Hays and Burnet Counties
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) April 17, 2026 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) and the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) teamed up for LCRA’s Steps Forward Day on April 10. The annual day of giving brings employees together to participate in community service and beautification projects across PEC’s service area.
Approximately 20 PEC volunteers donated 120 hours to complete the following projects:
- Granite Shoals: Painted the community center
- Kyle: Picked up litter and painted the trail signs and bird blind at the Bunton Creek Wildflower Loop
- Oakalla: Installed and painted a Little Free Library, spread mulch, and cleaned up garden beds
“One of the unique qualities of electric cooperatives is how we show our care and concern for our communities,” said PEC Community Relations Manager Celeste Mikeska.
“The Texas Hill Country is a very special place to PEC and home to generations of our members. We’re proud to partner with LCRA to do our part to help preserve the area’s natural beauty and improve the communities we serve.
“We want to extend a big ‘thank you’ to all the PEC employees who stepped forward with us this year,” said Tom Oney, LCRA Executive Vice President of External Affairs. “We greatly appreciate your partnership and commitment to helping make the day a success. We are proud to work side by side with you today and throughout the year.”
LCRA launched its Steps Forward employee volunteer program in 2015 and works closely with PEC to identify service projects that will benefit PEC members. In 2025, PEC participated in LCRA Steps Forward Day with 19 volunteers and projects that took place in Liberty Hill, Marble Falls, and Wimberley.
