Pack storm safety into one bag

Store these items in your emergency kit

You never know when storm clouds may be on their way. Be prepared not just for bad weather, but for power outages. This includes adding a few items to your home emergency kit, knowing how to report outages, and charging your electronic devices before the storm hits. If you experience a power outage, it’s likely you can still access the PEC outage map from your cell phone.

You can weather the storm by packing these items in your home emergency kit:

  • A flashlight
  • One gallon of water per person
  • A hand-crank radio
  • A tool box
  • Batteries
  • Blankets
  • Cash
  • First-aid supplies
  • Nonperishable food items
  • A manual can opener
  • Matches
  • Medications (over-the-counter and prescription)
  • Pet supplies
  • Battery banks for charging devices
  • Multipurpose tool
  • Air-activated heat packs
  • Hand sanitizer

Reporting a power outage

If you experience an outage, there’s more than one way to report it. Keep a list of important numbers, including your PEC account number, and PEC’s outage reporting and emergency line, 888-883-3379. You can also report power outages through SmartHub or by texting OUTAGE to 25022 from the number associated with your account (message and data rates may apply).

Track and follow outage information using the PEC outage map here.
