PEC Seeking Nominations for New Community Transformer Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) June 4, 2025 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is seeking nominations for its new Community Transformer Award, which recognizes individuals who are making remarkable contributions in their community. PEC will recognize the winners at the October 2025 board meeting and will celebrate them with a ceremony and by planting a tree in their honor.

For more than 85 years, the Cooperative has played a vital role in transforming the Texas Hill Country into a thriving economic landscape. The region has seen incredible growth and prosperity thanks to the hard work of community leaders, and PEC wants to pay tribute to their service.

“For decades, PEC has given back to schools, nonprofits, and chambers of commerce,” said Jared Fields, PEC external relations representative. “Now, we look forward to celebrating the incredible people working to improve our communities through selfless acts of service, leadership, and engagement.”

Anyone can submit a nomination by completing an online form through July 8. A panel will review the submissions and select recipients who best meet and reflect the qualities of a community champion. Additionally, those nominated must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be PEC members in good standing who serve communities in or around the  Cooperative’s service area. Please provide examples of ways the nominee has given back and quantify the reach of their impact (local, countywide, statewide, nationwide, and an estimate of how many people they reach).
  • Nominees should be change makers who have made lasting improvements in communities serviced by PEC — examples can include first responders, church leaders, community organization leaders, veterans, economic developers, and others who work hard to positively influence their community.
  • Contribute to organizations, causes, civic clubs, or other service organizations.
  • Dedicate a substantial amount of time each week to their community.
