If you’re looking for places to go for a Hill Country holiday road trip, these destinations have just what you need to bring your family some cheer.
But before you go, be sure your home is prepped for winter so you can save on energy use even while you’re away.
- Lower the thermostat 7-10 degrees when you plan to be away for long periods of time.
- Turn off or unplug electronics so energy isn’t used while you’re away.
- Keep your garage door closed to keep cold air out.
- Caulk around all gaps, holes, and stationary components inside and out, including telephone, electrical, cable, gas, and water spigots.
- Cover your external water spigots to keep pipes from freezing.

- See the Johnson City Lights Spectacular: From November 24 to January 7, over 2 million lights will brighten this Hill Country town nightly. PEC’s headquarters also takes part in the festivities by lighting up our oak trees with 1.3 million sparkling LED lights from 6 p.m. to midnight daily. Donations to PEC’s Power of Change Program are welcome.
