How PEC and Its Members Helped Candlelight Ranch Conserve Water
At PEC, we believe in being a good steward to the land our members have called home for generations. That’s why we’re proud to have awarded a $5,000 Power of Change grant supporting Candlelight Ranch in Marble Falls, which will help fund a rainwater catchment system at their newest building, The Hideaway.
More than just a ranch
Candlelight Ranch was founded in 1999 with a vision: to provide a healing, educational space for children to connect with nature. Co-founder Don Barr and his family saw the 40-acre property as more than just land — it was a place where kids could learn about the area’s natural history, grow food, and care for animals.
For more than 25 years, Candlelight Ranch has been a place for children of all abilities to get involved in a variety of activities, including gardening, zip lining, equine education, and so much more.
The need for an indoor space
Over the years, Texas summers have become too hot and dry for kids to stay outside all day, making an indoor activity space essential for Candlelight Ranch.
Enter The Hideaway. Completed in April 2024, this indoor facility now offers a space for art, music, and educational games, ensuring that kids can continue learning and growing, rain or shine. The rainwater catchment system, with installation complete, allows water to be conserved and used for watering gardens.
“We’re extremely thankful to the PEC members who rounded up their bills to support nonprofits like us,” said Candlelight Ranch Executive Director Stacie Bryan. “It’s hugely impactful for so many in Central Texas.”
