Registration Kicks off for PEC’s Camp Save-a-Watt

Free, Online Summer Camp for Students in Grades K-5

As part of our commitment to supporting educational opportunities for students, Pedernales Electric Cooperative is proud to offer Camp Save-a-Watt™. The free, online summer camp for elementary school students teaches PEC’s youngest members important lessons in energy conservation, nature exploration, and electrical safety. Parents and educators can register for the camp now through May 30. Camp lessons begin June 2.

“Since we’ve launched Camp Save-a-Watt in 2021, it’s become an anticipated event for families to participate year after year,” said PEC Community Outreach Specialist Kevyn Packer. “To supplement online learning, our solar car derby will be back by popular demand along with other in-person activities we’re excited to host, so it’s the perfect time to keep learning — all summer long.”

This eight-week camp offers weekly educational videos, mini-lessons, crafts,
and activities. Lessons are formulated for students to learn online and at their own pace with the camp’s mascot Wattson Raccoon and PEC experts. By learning alongside parents and teachers, Camp Save-a-Watt can help kids become mindful of their energy use at home and at school — to help save money and resources in their community.

This year’s in-person events will include “Meet a Lineworker” events where campers will get to try on safety gear, learn about careers in linework, and see our crews in action. Some events will include egg drops, where campers can build contraptions at home to protect an egg and test the effectiveness of their design as it drops from a PEC bucket truck. PEC will also host an in-person Solar Car Derby Day where campers can build and race solar cars. Events are scheduled as follows:

Meet a Lineworker:

Solar Car Derby:

PEC’s Solar Car Derby will be held at 10 a.m. June 26 at Putters & Gutters in Marble Falls.

Campers registered by May 16 will receive a free Camp Save-a-Watt T-shirt. Parents and teachers can register and learn more at mypec.com/camp.
