PEC crews making headway in restoration efforts

Most remaining outages require complex repairs

Pedernales Electric Cooperative crews continue to work around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible for members affected by outages. Overnight, the cooperative made significant progress, restoring power to more than 11,000 members.

As of 1 p.m. more than 97% of PEC members have power. Crews continue to manage systemwide outages, with the most extensive damage in the cooperative’s Oak Hill, Dripping Springs, and CanyonLake areas.

“We are in a position where we believe that late today or early tomorrow, we should be able to restore even more outages,” said Michael Hansen, PEC director of operations for Oak Hill.

While crews have made progress, there is still widespread damage. The remaining outages across PEC’s 8,100 square-mile service area are complex and can take time to repair due to downed trees and branches, as well as difficult terrain. These outages also require many crews and materials to restore wire, fix poles, and clear vegetation.

For the system’s larger outages, PEC is providing tentative estimated restoration times to keep our members informed. Outages affected about 81,000 members systemwide at the peak of this winter weather event on Thursday. More than 50 contract crews from across the state and country continue to assist with restoration efforts.

“We are confident that today we can round a corner and begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Hansen said. “Our crews are holding strong and giving their all, every day and night to make sure the lights get on for back every one of our PEC members.”
