Marble Falls employees bake their best for PEC

Cooperative hosts bake-off competition to celebrate 85th anniversary

PEC employees and their families gathered at the cooperative’s Marble Falls office September 27, to put their best baked goods forward in celebration of the co-op’s 85th anniversary.

Entries ranged from Bundt cakes and cupcakes to Mexican sweet bread and a variety of delicious confections. Lisa Hambrick owner and pastry chef of Lisa’s Cakery in Marble Falls served as the competition’s grand prize judge.

Employees who didn’t compete still had a chance to participate by taste testing entries with a $5 donation to benefit PEC’s Power of Change Program. The program funds community grants that PEC awards twice a year to nonprofits in the cooperative’s service territory. The following employees and their entries were named winners in their respective categories:

Grand Prize: Selected by Lisa Hambrick based on appearance, taste, and texture.

  • David Wagner, PEC member relations employee development specialist — Mama Wagner’s Fruit Cocktail Cake

People’s Choice: Selected by employees.

  • Rhonda Woolverton, PEC member relations analyst — Mama’s Carrot Cake

Lucky Draw: Selected by a random draw of entries, except those selected as the Grand Prize and People’s Choice award winners.

  • Hannah Rubio, PEC member relations analyst — Pumpkin Cake
