Co-op collects more than two tons of paper at annual event
(MARBLE FALLS, Texas) Oct. 15, 2026 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) hosted its annual Community Shred Day Oct. 14, at the co-op’s Marble Falls office. The free event had a record turnout with more than 110 vehicles driving through to drop off items. Altogether, PEC collected more than 5,400 pounds, or 2.7 tons, of paper and five hard drives for secure shredding.
Members and the public were each allowed to drop off five boxes of paper and computer hard drives to be shredded securely. The annual event is put on by the co-op’s cybersecurity and records teams as part of October’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month. PEC employees helped to unload items from vehicles and provided handouts with helpful cybersecurity tips and information to those who attended.
“It’s our pleasure to provide this important service to our members and community,” said PEC Cybersecurity Engineer Tariq Shaheed. “We’re always amazed at the turnout and popularity of this event and we’re happy to get out from behind our desks to meet with everyone, answer their questions, and engage with our community firsthand.”
PEC provided the service for free to the Marble Falls community, and the co-op is grateful to be able to provide this opportunity to help its members safely discard their documents.
