High school-involved students honored for showing the co-op difference
(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) Nov. 2, 2026 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) knows that the students of today will become tomorrow’s leaders. The co-op believes in supporting area students through programs and recognition like PEC’s Power Player Award. This month, PEC surprised winners of the award, which honors high school students who exemplify the co-op difference through leadership, dedication to their craft, and concern for their community. Winners of PEC’s Power Player Award were selected from around 80 students nominated across Central Texas.
“These students juggle many demands and still make time to be a light for their teammates, classmates, and groups,” said PEC Community Outreach Specialist Mikayla Herron. “They strive for excellence and shine as leaders at school, in their activities, and within their community. Their efforts do not go unnoticed, and PEC is delighted to honor and encourage these students.”
PEC’s 2026 Power Player Award winners include:
- Madelyn Lemley, senior at Rouse High School (Leander ISD)
- Casen Roberts, senior at Junction High School (Junction ISD)
- Lauren Byrnes: senior at Dripping Springs High School (Dripping Springs ISD)
- Jeremiah Bales: junior at Wimberley High School (Wimberley ISD)
- Chloe Clark: senior at LBJ High School (Johnson City ISD)
“By supporting local students today, we’re investing in the health and vitality of our communities tomorrow when they return home from college or trade school and bring all they’ve learned back here to the Hill Country,” Herron said.
PEC selected its Power Players for their leadership qualities and character traits that make them standout students and well-rounded young adults. The winners are involved in several activities within their respective schools and communities. They each received a trophy, yard sign, and a gift card to use toward their activities.
Co-ops are economic drivers in their communities. As the nation’s largest electric distribution cooperative, PEC is member-focused and places a high priority on community giving through grants, scholarships, youth programs, appreciation events, and more.
PEC’s Power Player Award is one of several it gives out each year through PEC’s community engagement programs. PEC also provides grants to teachers through the co-op’s Educational Spotlight Awards. Collectively, these awards highlight the importance of PEC’s values and celebrate members who give back and strengthen their communities.
