Applications due November 3
(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) September 8, 2026 — Today, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is accepting applications for community grants through November 3. Nonprofits located in and around PEC’s service area may apply for up to $5,000 in grant funds for projects related to technology, energy efficiency, and capital improvements. The grants are made possible by PEC members who participate in the co-op’s Power of Change Program.
“Nothing embodies the co-op spirit quite like coming together to care for our communities,” said PEC Community Relations Manager Celeste Mikeska. “We understand that nonprofits depend on grants and funding to sustain their missions. PEC and our members are proud to provide these valuable contributions that help keep the Hill Country bright.”
Supporting communities through charitable giving is part of the co-op business model. In March 2026, PEC awarded nearly $40,000 in community grants to nine area nonprofits. With its PEC grant, Marble Falls Area EMS recently purchased two new ultrasound devices that can help first responders identify life-threatening conditions.
“We’re really appreciative of the grant,” Marble Falls Area EMS Operations Director Starla McLaurin said. “The new devices will help us better assist patients who might be unconscious or in cardiac arrest and will ultimately help us save lives out here in Burnet County.”
PEC members interested in helping their communities can enroll in the Power of Change Program to have their bills rounded to the nearest dollar each month or make a one-time donation. Besides grants, Power of Change supports PEC’s United Charities program, youth education programs, local libraries, and education foundations. It also provides financial bill assistance to PEC members in need.
“Not everybody has thousands of dollars to give, but rounding up your bill adds up in ways that you don’t even realize,” said Jayne Whisnant, chief development officer at Texas Humane Heroes. The Leander nonprofit used its PEC grant to improve its kennel area for shelter animals.

The average donation for members enrolled in PEC’s Power of Change program is less than $6 per year, or 50 cents per month. Members can join at myPEC.com/change.
