Prospective Lineworkers Wanted: See if the Trade is the Right Fit for You
Interested in becoming a lineworker, but don’t know where to start? PEC’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program is recruiting local high school graduates for paid positions that provide training and help them determine whether a career in linework is right for them.
The program is currently hiring for positions based in these districts:
- Kyle
- Canyon Lake
Pay starts at $22 per hour, with the opportunity to earn a full-time position with benefits at PEC as a lineworker apprentice. Interested candidates should send their resume to [email protected].
Pre-apprentices will work as contractors through a staffing agency for 40 hours per week for up to three months, during which they will gain basic experience as groundsworkers and see firsthand what it entails to be a lineworker. They will be evaluated by district operations on various criteria, including dependability, work ethic, teamwork, communication, and retention of basic linework knowledge.
This program creates a pathway for those interested in joining PEC as a lineworker apprentice 1A and progressing their career toward becoming a journeyworker. To be eligible, candidates must meet the same minimum qualifications and physical demands as first-year lineworker apprentices, including a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation to the district office.
