Our Tips for Cybersecurity Awareness Month

How to Keep Your Data Safe

Your safety and security are our number one concern. We take our responsibility to protect your data very seriously, but you need to protect yourself, too. Follow the helpful tips below to stay safe during Cybersecurity Awareness Month and all year long.

  • Use complex and unique passwords, including for your online PEC account.
  • Be sure not to reuse passwords for multiple accounts.
  • Don’t store your passwords in writing or on your devices. Instead, use a reputable password manager.
  • Confirm the identity of those claiming to be PEC employees by asking to see their credentials or by calling us at 888-554-4732.
  • Keep your computer, phone, and antivirus software up to date.
  • Use two-factor authentication whenever possible for extra account security.
  • Be aware of suspicious links in emails and text messages.
  • Back up important files offline. Store your paper files securely, and shred them when it’s time to dispose of them.
