Camp Save-a-Watt™ Hosts 715 Kids in 2025
It was another standout year for PEC’s Camp Save-a-Watt, which welcomed a record 715 kids this summer! Our flagship event, Solar Car Derby, brought nearly 100 campers together to build and race solar-powered cars on June 26 at Putter & Gutters in Marble Falls.
This eight-week camp offers educational videos, mini-lessons, crafts, and activities for kindergarten through fifth-grade students. Lessons are crafted for students to learn online at their own pace with the camp’s mascot, Wattson Raccoon, and PEC experts. By learning alongside parents and teachers, Camp Save-a-Watt can help kids become mindful of their energy use at home and school, helping them and their families save money and conserve precious resources.
New in 2025: The Egg Drop Challenge
This year, we introduced the Egg Drop Challenge, where campers built contraptions to protect their eggs. PEC lineworkers tested them by dropping them from a bucket truck during two of our Meet a Lineworker events at Joann Cole Mitte Public Library in Bertram and the Buda Public Library.
“The egg drop challenge added a more engaging hands-on activity for our participants. We saw so many creative projects using a range of materials to protect their egg,” Community Outreach Specialist Kevyn Packer said. “It was fun watching our lineworkers drop them from the bucket down below as everyone counted down and cheered.”
We also hosted Meet a Lineworker events at Liberty Hill Public Library and Mammen Family Public Library in Bulverde. A big thanks goes out to the libraries in each city for providing a great space for these events.
Bringing learning to life
We were especially excited to bridge our online lessons with our in-person events this summer, and we loved seeing families attend multiple in-person events across our service territory.
“We’re glad to see that our presence matters and that we’re able to offer our members some fun, kid-friendly activities,” Packer said.
