PEC wraps up 85th anniversary year with birthday celebrations

Events celebrated in conjunction with longtime members’ birthdays

We know it’s the people of our communities who keep us moving forward. That’s why PEC celebrated 85 years by putting the honor and focus on who we serve: our members.

From telling the stories of lifelong members like Dripping Springs rancher Robert Puryear and Kyle native Marshall Kuykendall, to sharing the memories of longtime employees such as former finance department employee Annie Barker or former female lineworker Vickie Kilmer, we’re proud of our rich history.

To wrap up our celebrations, we partnered with senior centers and local senior advocacy organizations to host 85th birthday celebrations for our longtime members. Those in attendance were able to enjoy music from a singing quartet or a high school choir, and some took home prizes such as blankets or domino sets.

These events couldn’t have been possible without the support of the Kyle Area Senior Zone, the Bulverde Spring Branch Activity Center, the Marble Falls Senior Center, Treasure of the Hills Senior Center in Cedar Park, the Blanco Senior Apartments, and Hill Country Senior Center in Dripping Springs.

“Our members are the lifeline of our communities,” said Community Relations Manager Celeste Mikeska. “We are PEC Proud to celebrate this milestone anniversary with the members and their families who have been with us through our story for so many years.”

This cooperative was founded in 1938 with the people of the Texas Hill Country in mind. It was that neighbor-focused mindset that motivated Lyndon B. Johnson and rancher E. Babe Smith to bring power to a rural area at a time when most utility companies didn’t see it as profitable. As we complete our 85th year, we strive to continue providing excellent service and safe, reliable electricity to our communities.
