PEC Reminds Drivers to Move Over, Slow Down for Utility Vehicles

(JOHNSON CITY, Texas) August 29, 2025 — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is reminding drivers to move over and slow down — not only for first responders — but also for utility vehicles and PEC crews working roadside to restore power. Under Texas’ Move Over or Slow Down law, drivers must move out of the lane closest to the parked utility vehicle when possible or slow down to 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit. The law covers tow trucks and emergency, police, construction, and utility vehicles, including PEC bucket trucks with flashing lights.

“Linework is a dangerous occupation, and the safety of our crews is paramount,” said Jason Murray, PEC’s director of Safety, System Reliability, and Emergency Preparedness. “They’re working near high-voltage equipment in bucket trucks raised 40-60 feet in the air, and nothing is more important than getting them home safely. When you see our trucks and crews working near the road, please use caution, move over, and slow down.”

PEC is committed to providing safe, reliable, and affordable power to its members and communities. Visit TxDOT for more information on the Move Over or Slow Down law and find additional safety tips at mypec.com/safety.
